As part of a renewed focus on internal communications, Spirent commissioned a new intranet to be built on VerseOne CMS. Spirent’s primary goal for the new intranet was to increase staff engagement, bringing a “local” feel to communications across the global business.
Spirent prioritised features to support this objective, including giving staff members the ability to create and update their status (modelled on Facebook’s functionality), save favourite content and links to other applications, provide feedback on the usability and informativeness of each page of the intranet, and interact with one another in discussion forums and office events. Embedding the company’s social feeds also provides employees a way to engage with how Spirent presents itself publicly through these media.
Spirent also developed private areas of the intranet for each office location, designed to provide custom content relating to that location’s employment practices, benefits, and pension information. The “Social Hub” section of the intranet offers a central place for members of staff to find out what charitable and other activities are taking place within the company, read employee news and spotlights, and submit photos of the day.
VerseOne developed its own OneLogin application for VerseOne CMS which was accepted into the OneLogin library, allowing Spirent users to sign on to the new intranet at the same time as signing in to all of their other business applications.
Finally, Spirent engaged VerseOne Creative to create an animated intranet “mascot” to add motion graphics and liveliness to the site.
By bringing all disparate Intranet solutions together into one central Intranet Solution it allows for the collection and storage of employee knowledge and expertise helping to keep knowledge within the organisation, thus improving employee productivity and self-sufficiency.
Improved internal communications between the various business areas and locations within Spirent Communications will reduce the time spent searching, a one-stop-shop for organisational and work related content. There is now a more unified and coherent look and feel across the Intranet.
The intranet at Spirent is an evolving site, and future plans include giving staff members more interactive profile functionality such as the ability to update profiles and publish additional information about their skills, interests, and activities. Another key feature will be the development of a peer-to-peer rewards scheme, where members of staff can nominate their colleagues for recognition and suggest incentives for high performance.
