Digifest 2013 - Helping Housing Providers Tackle Digital Inclusion

On Wednesday, June 5th VerseOne co-sponsored Digifest MCR 2013 with Affinity Sutton and Digital Unite.

After running a number of successful Digfests further South, VerseOne and DigitalUnite decided it was time to bring the Housing Sector's leading conference on Digital Inclusion and Website Accessibilty to the North-West.

With over 60 providers of Social Housing in Attendance, the session brought together Communications and Marketing, IT professionals, Resident Inolvement Staff and many other roles—a turnout that not only reflects the current-profile of Digital Inclusion, but also the fact that it is a truly business-wide priority.

As well as excellent presentations from Affinity Sutton, GoONManchester and the DU Team, VerseOne's sessions covered:

• An explanation of the clauses of the Equality Act 2010 that affect public sector website owners and editors.
• A live demonstration by a Web Developer who is also registered blind, and who will show us first-hand the real-life difference between Accessible and non-Accessible websites.
• A non-technical explanation of the WCAG 2.0 Guidelines in simple terms
• A considered view of the different options available when it comes to tackling access to the web via mobile devices.

Accessibility Consultant Penny Everett — Penny spends her time auditing websites and has written a blog post on the top five accessibility errors she encountered in 2012 which you can read here.

John Sexton who is a visually impaired person — John will be presenting a talk on the issue of Web Accessibility as well as demonstrating the live-use of assitive technology read more about John's recent presentation at the VerseOne's 2013 Accessibility Focus events.
